Great Pumpkin Days 2015

Personally I always skip Great Pumpkin Day in November and December because of the busyness of Thanksgiving and Christmas. Then I start fresh again in January, planning for my second favorite holiday.

I'm going to revamp my Great Pumpkin Day plans and adventures for 2015. For now I am just going to list a basic "theme" or idea for each Great Pumpkin Day. For those who may not know...Great Pumpkin Day is the last day of each month....ending with THE Great Pumpkin Day on October 31st.

GREAT PUMPKIN DAYS 2015

January 31st: Looking for Pumpkins in all the Right Places (spend time web browsing, looking through books and magazines and gather ideas for 2015)

February 28th: Falling in Love with Fall (make a fall craft or décor item)

March 31st: Witches, and Vampires and Ghosts Oh My (planning our annual Boo Bash/Halloween party)

April 30th: Spooktacular Stories (read some ghost stories)

May 31st Even a Ghost has to Eat (fall or party recipes)

June 30th Flashlights, Friends and the Supernatural (go on a ghost hunt)

July 31st Boo (planning boo activities and things for our "ghost" to bring this year)

August 31st The Bell Tolls for Thee (send out save the date cards for the party)

September 30th  First Friday (get ready for First Friday Fab Four event on October 2nd, tentative date at this time)

October 31st: Celebrating the Day

So those are my plans. I encourage you to "look ahead" to 2015 and plan some special fun ways to celebrate Great Pumpkin Day.

Let's Talk Turkey

How about this turkey jar from The Baby Center? It combines a cute craft with a thankful activity. Sweet.

Or this spiffy q-tip turkey from Crafts for all Seasons.

A fruit turkey for your table from A Proverbs 31 Wife  This one is something else but it's super cute and a useful way to serve appetizers!

Another food related turkey! Turkey cupcakes, notice the use of the Swedish fish as tail feathers!
Found on BuzzFeed.

Turkey napkin rings made from bottle caps featured at The Country Chic Cottage.

So as you can see there are plenty of turkeys to be talking about. Freshen up your Thanksgiving with a new turkey idea!

Easy Fall Centerpieces

Just in time for Thanksgiving, some easy centerpieces that you can put together in a snap!

These little pumpkins and fall glitter jars are featured over at Today's Creative Blog.
What I like is that you can use the jars in a variety of displays, grouped together, in a line, nestled in among other fall-ish things!

Autumn is a great time to look to nature for décor ideas. Here a gourd is used as a vase and pumpkins are piled high on a rustic cake plate!  This idea was featured at My Wedding Reception Ideas.

You can never go wrong with simple candles and fall leaves. From: That's What Che Said

More candles in a pedestal bowl, so warm and inviting

No matter which way you go, a pretty centerpiece is sure to brighten un  your table!

Thanksgiving Fun (New Traditions and More)

Aren't these the cutest and what a fun new tradition you can start with your children or grandchildren....making turkey cookies while waiting for the meal to be ready. The directions for these are available at Snack Picks

Here's another fun tradition you could start. A Thankful Tree.

You might also place a small card at each place for guests to write what they are thankful for. These could be added to a journal or scrapbook. What a wonderful heritage for children to have...years worth of thankfulness from grandparents, aunts, uncles, etc.

Printable cards available at Hungry Heffy Crafts

Here's another version of the same idea but this person collected the cards and put them into a small photo album.

Idea from Paper Perfection

Since everyone is gathered for Thanksgiving...how about some photo booth props for some great snapshots.

 .
These free printable props are offered by Capturing Joy.

With all of these great ideas you are ready to create some fun memories!!

Thanksgiving Freebies

I love subway art and this free printable from How to Nest for Less is sweet!  Print it and frame it in an 8 x 10 frame!

There's this banner and a whole set of free printables at Catch My Party. There's plenty to make your Thanksgiving table look festive!

And here's a free printable that's not only cute but functional. It's a great way to serve fresh carrots, and sliced peppers.  You can find this little cutie over at Chickabug.

No matter how elaborate or how simple your' Thanksgiving is...fill it with something you love the most...family and friends! (and great food of course!)

Autumn Just Around the Corner

Let's face it. Summer is coming to an end and autumn is just around the corner. That's OK with me. Autumn is my favorite season for lots of reasons....

  • Football
  • Cooler days
  • Beautiful colors
  • Baking bread and casseroles and using the oven again
  • Soups, soups, and more soups
  • Halloween
  • Thanksgiving
  • My birthday
  • Harvest
  • Snuggly blankets
  • Pumpkin patch trips
  • Bonfires
I could go on and on. I also like autumn because that is the time I blog the most here at Cranberry and Company. Some of my blogs are all year blogs and some are more seasonal. This one obviously is more fall focused so I'm looking forward to sharing my autumn adventures with you!

Thankful Jar

I made this jar for myself and some friends back on New Years Day but it would work equally well in the fall as part of a Thanksgiving celebration. The jar is a plain canning jar bought at  Dollar Tree and the lid is spray painted.  Then I printed the label (from an internet site I've lost track of, they filled the jars with cookies) Then I printed Thankful cards.  You don't have to use the cards, you can use plain paper or other gratitude printables. There are a lot out there online! If you get a positive note or email...stick that in the jar too!

The idea is to put "good things" inside the jar all year. Things to be thankful for but also other things. Did you get a present you love? See a quotation that inspires you. Did you have great time with friends?  Jot it down and put it in the jar. At the end of the year...you will have a jar full of great memories and things to reflect on.

Happy Great Pumpkin Day January 2014

Over at Magical Holiday Home, I'm planning to post each Great Pumpkin Day about my annual Halloween party. Step by step from picking out the theme, to invitations and menu planning. I m still struggling with figuring out a theme or topic or approach to GPD here at Cranberry and Company. I enjoy round ups and sharing things I find online but I'd like a little different slant this year. I'm just not sure what it will be yet!  So stay tuned next month and I hope to have my ideas formed a little better. In the meantime....enjoy your first Great Pumpkin Day of 2014!!
